Thornton Community centre was built in 1973 and is the hub of village life with many groups using the facilities and holding events there.
The main hall is ideal for all manner of events from private parties to concerts and is home to the Markfield and Thornton theatre group; the stage making it an ideal venue for local amateur dramatic productions.
There is plenty of space throughout the two halls for craft fairs, art exhibitions plus much more.
Outside the hall there is a large grassed area leading to the children’s playground and the footpath to the reservoir.
In May 2017 a new kitchen was fitted to the hall; new flooring in the committee room with more improvements to follow.
The Trustees of the centre are committed to keeping the hall in the best possible state of repair and updating the facilities available.
Large car park available.
Next to the main hall there is a self contained Sports hall with its own kitchen and toilets.
Early in 2017 the trustees purchased sports equipment and in June 2017 started up a sports club. There are 4 table tennis tables and equipment plus a badminton court and equipment available.
Many groups use the hall on a regular basis – see the table below. The hall is available for hire at other times.
More community events are being planned at the centre with quiz nights, folk concerts and of course the annual pantomime and plays.
The hall hire costs are extremely reasonable and bookings can be made by contacting Muriel Walker on: –
