The Village Shop

The Stepin Convenience store (formerly known as Norm’s corner shop) is on the corner of Main Street and Church Lane.

The shop sells everything you would expect from a local convenience store, plus much more.

In 2019 Raj opened up a small area to include a post office in the shop.

As well as everyday essentials such as bread, milk, newspapers you can also pay your electricity bills, top up your mobile phone, buy a lottery ticket, enjoy a freshly made sandwich with their delicious carved ham, order a hot drink; and now bacon baps are available too.

All perfect picnic food if you fancy a walk around the reservoir. From the shop walk along Church Lane enter the churchyard and continue on down the steep path.

The shop was destined for closure in 2012 as it struggled to find a buyer, but by 2014 it had completed a remarkable turnaround by being named Leicestershire’s Village Shop of the Year after local resident Nigel Bennett took over the shop.

Upon Nigel’s retirement from the shop it was taken over by Raj seen in the photograph above.
