I am sorry for the use of this overused slogan – but we really do!
St Peter’s church, Thornton is a medieval, grade 1 listed building admired by all who visit.Â

However, because of this grand lady’s age she does need considerable care and repair.Â
To access the church there are 6 steps to negotiate, this of course is after the path has been descended!Â
So, as well as for the ongoing repairs we also need funds for the installation of a lift to allow easy access.
The well established fund-raising group, The Friends of St Peter’s (FOSP) has been raising funds since 1995 holding events such as Open Gardens, Quiz Nights, Craft Fayres, Christmas Tree Festivals, Clear Out Sales, Greeting card and Treasure Hunt sales and much more.
Our fund raising events are very well supported and we recognise that St Peter’s is valued by many throughout our local villages.Â
Thank you to you all.
Here’s where we need help.Â
We are very short of committee members (trustees).
The group meets around every couple of months usually when there is a need; plans fundraising events, and agrees how the raised money should be spent in conjunction with the church council.Â
Meetings are friendly, happy occasions. (One member said he laughed more at our meetings than at any other.)Â You do not have to be a church goer to join the team.Â
If you are even a little bit interested in joining the team please do contact us. Your involvement can be as little or as much as you like. Â
We just need to make sure that this heritage building is kept in good condition for future generations.
If you are unable to join the committee, but would like to support FOSP and help our lovely building, please do contact us.

Everyone is welcome, including well behaved dogs on leads.
Organised by the village for the villagers.
Look forward to seeing you.
Thank you to everyone who has helped in the past to care for Thornton churchyards.
However, they are like the Forth Bridge!! And last year we did not meet very often – totally my fault.
Folk have suggested that a regular set date to meet each month would be very helpful, though we could also meet at other times if we thought it necessary. And of course the weather would have a bit of a say!
So the second Saturday of each month would seem best for now.
So, our next meeting will be this Saturday! So sorry for the short notice!! Hopefully that won’t happen again!
We will start at the usual time of 10 am and aim to finish around 12 noon.
It doesn’t matter how long you can join us for. It would be great if you can come along.
The jobs will include collecting fallen branches, clearing vegetation growing close to the church walls, giving the new hedging a bit of a prune. And as ever anything else that you think needs doing at this time of year.
Please bring your own tools and a drink, and wear suitable shoes and clothing.
Thank you.
Hope you will be able to join us.
Love
Shirley
