Book of Condolence – St Peter’s Church

St Peter’s Church is open today and tomorrow to everyone from 10 am until 6 pm.

A Book of Condolence is available for signing and tea lights.

Everyone is welcome at the church service 10.30 am tomorrow, when we will remember and honour her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

As nationally it’s Heritage Weekend and St Peter’s is a Grade 1 listed heritage building, there will be plenty of information about this ancient building available.

Refreshments available.

Out of respect for her Majesty’s status as Head of the Church, we have withdrawn our scarecrow entries. We are very sorry to cause this disappointment. However, we hope to have them on display on the weekend of our Harvest Festival.

Please let us know if you need any help by emailing churchwarden.thornton@gmail.com

Thank you.

Phase One – Thornton Community Centre

Thornton Community Centre is undergoing a ‘makeover’ as we approach the 50th anniversary of the opening of the hall in 1973.

Decorators (Johnson Wellborn Decorating – 07543 350832) have recently spent 4 days at the Centre refreshing the paintwork in the Sports Hall foyer, disabled toilet, kitchenette and locker room, creating a light and airy space.

The Sports Hall has proved to be an ideal space this year for childrens’ parties – with plenty of room for a bouncy castle in the hall. (If you are thinking of booking a party do check the height first though!).

Thornton Community Centre Administrator Required

Job Description:

The trustees of Thornton Community centre are looking to employ a part-time administrator to assist the volunteer trustees with the day to day running of the hall.

This is a paid role with the amount being subject to discussion and the roles adopted.

The scope of the job is flexible as some elements are not essential.

For the full role below we envisage the time commitment to be around 6 hours per week on average, although this could vary from week to week.

This job would suit someone looking for a few hours of work per week which can largely be fitted around existing commitments but there is a need to be flexible, particularly regarding bookings and key collections etc.

Duties will include:

Deal with enquiries for bookings including showing people round the hall.

Maintain a booking calendar and oversee the bookings electronically on Hallmaster.

Send out booking emails, liaise with the treasurer to confirm receipt of payments.

Produce an Excel spreadsheet detailing the bookings with contact details of the hirer, day, date, time, hall, cost and keyholder.

Open and close the hall to hirers (or where necessary arrange for a trustee to be available) and show hirers where all the equipment they require is kept.

Book annual servicing of equipment e.g., boiler/electrical checks/fire alarm/PAT testing and other inspections/maintenance as required e.g., window cleaning, hedge and border maintenance etc. and keep relevant records.

Obtain quotes for repairs/maintenance.

Basic computer literacy essential – Word, Excel, on line diaries, on line banking (viewing only).

Basic numeracy.

Must be organised and methodical.

Good communicator.

Friendly and approachable.

Must be available/flexible in the hours worked.

Background:

The Community Centre is losing the financial support from the Parish Council over the next 7 years and it is vital that the trustees generate sufficient income to make the hall self-sufficient.

The Centre celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2023 and there is large programme of upgrades required to get the hall ready for the next 50 years.

You will be playing a vital role in ensuring the future of the village hall by managing the existing bookings and generating new bookings from regular users and visitors alike and exploring the possibility of the premises being used as a wedding venue etc.
