The Thornton ~ Beer, gin and music festival

A village in Leicestershire and in the heart of the National Forest, overlooking Thornton Reservoir.

Hello lovely people
There is a churchyard working party this Saturday (29th) 10 until 12 noon.

It would be great if you could join us.
One of the jobs is to split up some of the snowdrops and plant.
All the usual jobs too.
Just bring any tools you would like to use, some stout gloves and a drink.
Do hope some of you can join us.
Love to you all

To celebrate St. Georges day this year, Friends of St Peter’s church organised an Open Evening on Monday 24th of April at St Peter’s Church, Thornton, followed by a Pie Night at the Bricklayers Arms.
The church was open between 6pm and 7.15pm for members of the public to watch the Bell Ringers rise and fall and ring various methods on the church bells.
Over 20 people turned up on the night to listen and watch, and some participated by way of chiming or ringing a bell.

The evening continued with 49 villagers and bell ringers filling the Bricklayers Arms for an evening meal – delicious pies of all types to suit everyone – followed by a ‘singalong’ to old favourites, Land of Hope and Glory, Jerusalem etc., ending with a rousing rendition of God Save the King.
Thank you to landlords Paul & Becky for opening the pub especially for us, for decorating it with flags and bunting, and entering into the spirit of the evening providing the music on screen and the song sheets.
There was the obligatory raffle – which raised £95 and Paul & Becky donated £144.55 from the cost of the meals – making a total raised for FOSP of £239.55
A very good night was had by all.
Thanks to Eric Roberts (Tower Captain, St Peter’s Church) for organising the evening.

Is back at the Community Centre at 2pm Wednesday 26th April.
Work on the Centre’s toilets has been completed until phase two in August.
Please come along for a cuppa, cake and a chat.
Everyone is welcome.

NEWS OF THEIR NEXT PRODUCTION
The Group will be performing “ GOING GREEN” by David Tristram from Wednesday 17th to Saturday 20th MAY 2023 at Thornton Community Centre at 7.30 p.m. nightly.
In choosing “ Going Green” , a tragicomedy, as our next production, we know that we have set our cast a huge challenge as the actors cope with the fast-paced dialogue and the various scenarios called for on stage.
Years ago, the word “green” seemed quite an ordinary one. We were encouraged to eat our “greens” and to count the bottles hanging on the wall- but that was about it! Now, however, the word has quite a different connotation when “going green” involves living an environmentally responsible life, and making choices that will help to preserve the Earth and its non-renewable resources instead of destroying them.
As the play opens, people have lost faith in the political establishment – worn down by expenses scandals, cash for questions, fat-cat bankers, austerity and riots. The whole country is crying out for a new direction, a fresh start. Step forward John Brown -future leader of the Green Party. John gives a blistering speech at the annual conference and the party faithful rise as one to greet their hero as John stands to deliver his stark message to the waiting world – “Go green …. or die”. Can this charismatic, driven man save the future ? That is debatable because John is hiding a terrible secret… one which will have surprising consequences.
We hope that you will come to discover what those consequences are. We promise to keep you wondering, guessing, and laughing too!
Tickets, (All £6), are on sale now and are available on 07438508166 or email mttg.theatre@gmail.com
