St Peter’s church, Thornton – Heritage Weekend

This weekend, 12th and 13th September,  is St Peter’s Heritage weekend, with the theme  Thornton Reservoir’s birds as well as the history of the village and church.

Saturday :10am – 5pm,  Sunday: 1-5pm

Listen to talks by Andy Smith about reservoir birdlife on Saturday 12th August at 10.30am and 2pm; 

Discover more about the birds that frequent our reservoir;

Visit our ‘Historic Thornton’ exhibition with fascinating insights into the history of our village;

Read about ‘Tales of village life’ from past decades;

Explore our lovely Grade 1 historical church for yourselves and discover its wealth of history;

Join  informal talks about local history on Sunday afternoon from 2pm.

 

Refreshments available.  Homemade chocolate brownies,  Old Fashioned sweet stall including homemade fudge.

Souvenirs, and Alexia’s beautiful cards.

This year we are celebrating angels at St Peter’s church, Thornton during the weekend of 13th and 14th of December.

You are invited to help us in this venture by creating your version of celebrating angels in whatever medium you choose.  It could be decorating a Christmas Tree with angels, paper chains of angels, mobile of angels, knitted angels – anything that is angelic.

Prizes will be awarded to the best in three different categories as judged by the people visiting the celebration during the weekend. 

Prizes will be given out after the Carol Service which will take place at 6pm on Sunday, 14th December.
