The trustees of Thornton Community Centre are delighted to announce that they have successfully secured a £19,862 grant from The National Lottery Community Fund to install 41 solar panels on the Centre’s roof.
The work will be carried out by local firm Bradgate Electrical Services Ltd during the October half-term holiday.
This investment marks a major step in the Community Centre’s journey towards becoming carbon neutral.
With annual electricity costs currently exceeding £3,600, it is hoped that the new solar panels will offset most—if not all—of the Centre’s current electricity bill, reducing both running costs and carbon emissions.
The trustees still have much more to do to maintain and improve the facilities at the 54-year-old Centre. The main hall’s central heating system has recently been condemned, and a replacement boiler is required at a cost of more than £3,500.
