The Bricklayers Arms

A quick update on the opening of the Bricklayers Arms from landlords Ben and Jan.

“Due to the recent outbreak & lockdown of the surrounding areas, we have decided to defer the re opening until further notice.
Our top priority is for the safety of ourselves, staff & our customers so we feel the steps we are taking are the correct ones, we hope you’ll understand.

Obviously there will be new safety measures in place, i.e. social distancing, health & hygiene with sanitising measures.

Being such a small pub a ONE WAY system will be in place with restricted table facilities.

Upon re-opening, food will be on a BOOKING ONLY system with a limited menu in place.

On a brighter note, the Bricklayers Arms has been redecorated from top to bottom and we can’t wait for your next visit.

As this is all new to both of us and yourselves. We anticipate a few teething problems, but I’m sure we will improve as we go along, with your help and suggestions.

THANK YOU for your patience we look forward to seeing you all very soon”

Community Foundation Coronavirus Support Fund

Community Foundation Coronavirus Support Fund

In light of the news yesterday of a return to lockdown following a spike in Coronavirus cases in Leicester we wanted to make you aware that our Coronavirus Support Fund is still open and accepting applications

We are keen to support charitable organisations within Leicester Leicestershire and Rutland who are continuing to support our most vulnerable groups at this time!

You can apply for up to £10,000 if you are helping:

  • Older people (over the age of 70) not otherwise supported
  • Vulnerable people with medical conditions, including mental health difficulties.
  • People who are isolated and lack a support network
  • People with low or insecure incomes e.g. having to claim universal credit or use food banks
  • People facing domestic violence
  • People facing other emergency needs not met by other organisations.

We are aware that some groups are getting ready to begin some face to face contact and we understand how challenging this maybe and are aware that you may need additional resources, staffing hours, volunteer on costs, PPE etc. to enable you to do this.

Please visit our website for more detail and to apply

Whilst we cannot guarantee funding, we are keen to keep you updated on our open funding streams

Kind regards

Thornton Church open again – for private prayer

The good news is that St Peter’s Church will be open on Sundays between 10 am and 12 noon from 5th July but only for  Private Prayer.  Come for 5 minutes, two hours or anything in between.   You can arrive at any time between 10 and 12.

A time for reflection, peace, prayer or just stillness.  Whatever, or whoever is on your mind, be still before God.

The church has been thoroughly cleaned and all our procedures have been approved by the Area Dean.  Social distancing will be in place, and hand sanitizer must  be used to ensure everyone’s safety.   There will always be two of us supervising, and available to answer questions.
