This year we are planning to hold Thornton Open Gardens – for real! It will be on Sunday 10th July, from 1-6pm. WATCH FOR MORE INFOMATION!
A huge thank you to everyone who collected a Christingle pack, sang Carols, and very kindly made donations for the Christingles, raising £44.10 for The Children’s Society on Christmas Eve. A beautiful event despite the rain!
And thank you to everyone who put donations in the collection tin in the shop for the tree. You raised £45!
Thank you everyone. Every little bit makes a bigger difference than we will ever know.
Love to you all
Don’t forget to collect your Christingle pack from the lychgate this evening from 4 to 4.30 pm, and maybe join in with some Carol singing.
The online service will be at 6pm and available at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mnja5flMDVU
We are really sorry but we have had to cancel both services on Christmas Eve.
We have decided to cancel the Christingle Services throughout the Benefice this year because of Covid. We need to keep everyone safe.
However, Christingle packs, with oranges, glow sticks and instructions will be available for collection from the Lychgate, at St Peter’s Church, between 4 and 4.30 pm on Christmas Eve.
There will be an online YouTube Christingle service airing at 6pm on Christmas Eve. Just type J22 Churches into the YouTube channel.
And we have had to cancel the Midnight Holy Communion service in Thornton due to illness – not covid though. Reverend Andrew has tried to find cover for the service but it’s proved impossible at such short notice.
There is a Midnight Communion service at St Michael’s at 11.30pm on Christmas Eve to which everyone is invited.
Everyone is also invited to the Christmas morning service at St Mary’s, Stanton at 10.30 am.
Please spread the word about all this. Thanks.
Wishing you all a Christmas full of hope, joy, and love,

This weekend is the Christmas Tree Festival and also the Carol Service at St Peter’s Church. Local people and groups go to great effort to decorate the trees in church and the effect is usually spectacular and magical – well worth popping in for a look!
Come and see the beautiful old village church adorned with Christmas trees. This year the theme is ‘Christmas Stories’
A huge thank you to everyone who supported the Christmas Craft Fayre last weekend.
After expenses were claimed, (lots weren’t) we raised an amazing £1590
Every penny of which goes towards the maintenance and repair of our beautiful church.
Arriving at the Reservoir Inn around 10am, touring the village on Colin’s steam engine visiting Highfields, Main Street, top and bottom, before arriving at the Community Centre for a day in his Grotto seeing little people.
Craft fayre opens at 10am. Lots to do and see including making Christmas decorations. See you there!
Father Christmas will be in attendance from about 10.30 in his grotto with a sack of small gifts. (cost to visit him is £1).
Excitingly, he will arrive by Steam Traction engine! He will board the engine at the Reservoir Inn around 10 am and make his way through the village via Highfields and Main Street all the way to the Stanton end of the village before coming back and arriving at the Community Centre at 10.30am.
What’s on offer? Lots of craft stalls, a children’s activity table making Christmas decorations, cake stall, raffle and tombola stalls, food and drinks from our cafe and of course Martin’s quiz.
There is a small entrance charge of 50p per adult. Hand sanitiser will be available. Masks welcome.
If you are able to come we really would appreciate your support please.
Please spread the word far and wide about this lovely, happy village event.
