Proudly present ….

Chester Dreadnought bluffs his way into the crumbling stately home of an impecunious aristocratic family, and even a trigger-happy belted Earl suffering from hallucinations cannot keep at bay the enterprising pair of jewel thieves who are pursuing their loot – not to mention Chester – round the castle. Suits of armour and secret doors, mistaken identities and dotty servants all help to provide the variety of fare that goes to the making of this wild goose chase.
A cool place – St Peter’s church
St Peter’s is lovely and cool inside and will be open from 12 midday until 6pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Please do come and enjoy the cool of the building.
Take a book, sit anywhere, or even take a comfy chair and relax in the cool.
If the church is locked and you want to use it for a cool place, please contact Shirley via thorntonvillage@aol.com.
Thornton church service – 13th July.
Hello St Peter’s and Friends
The Thornton church service this Sunday (13th) is J22 Worship with Holy Communion, followed by refreshments. It will be led by Rev Andrew. It’s a modern service of Christian Worship, family friendly with contemporary music. And it will be in the lovely COOL church building!
Everyone is very welcome.
St Peter’s Churchyard, Thornton path partly closed
Part of the public footpath through the churchyard is closed temporarily because of the danger of falling branches from a very poorly silver birch tree.
Access through the churchyard is now through the new churchyard.
There is a branch directly over the footpath about to fall. One branch fell while we were in the church yard. Two pigeons landed on it, and crash!
Permission is being sought to remove the tree as soon as possible.
Thornton Quiz Night is back – 6th September

Breakfast cancelled
URGENT NOTICE – CANCELLED!
We are very sorry to have to cancel today’s breakfast church at the community centre.
As many of you are aware, we have woken to little or no water in Thornton and, according to Severn Trent, estimated repair is by lunchtime.
The service is also to be cancelled as there are no useable facilities. There is a 10am service at Bardon Chapel and a 6pm Holy Communion at Copt Oak.
Funeral of Phil Reader
Very sadly Phil Reader, a much-loved village man who lived with his beloved Margaret in Thornton for nearly 6 decades, passed away on 18th June.
His funeral will be held in St Peter’s at 2.30pm on Thursday 24th July.
This will be a celebration of Phil’s life, and the family have asked that people dress in colourful, rather than sombre, clothes.
