The recent Christian Aid collection in Thornton raised £195.16.

The Queen has arrived at Thornton Community Centre – she awaits the pleasure of her subjects to join her in an afternoon and evening of celebration.
2pm to 4pm at the Community Centre Saturday 4th June – FREE cream teas.
Please come and have a natter with friends and neighbours over a cuppa with scones, jam and cream.
Dance away the evening with music from Godaddydaddy (6.30pm to 8.30pm) & the Boodons (9pm to 11pm).
With a bar provided by the Thornton Club to be set up in the side room of the hall.
If you wish to make a donation that’s fine – monies will go towards the ongoing maintenance of St Peter’s church and churchyard.
Activities available for your ‘little ones’ – tile painting, picture drawing etc.
FREE – Platinum Jubilee ‘goodie bags’ to be given to residents on a first come basis.
Each bag contains a jubilee badge, a packet of wild flower seeds, union flags for making chain link decorations and a tea towel.
Perhaps not the safest place for mum and dad to take their three remaining cygnets on an outing today.
Thornton residents are invited to a day of celebration at the Community Centre.
The hall is open from 2pm until late – with cream teas, childrens activities, live entertainment and a bar.
Come when you wish, stay as long as you like, connect with friends and neighbours and be fed and entertained FOR FREE (apart from the bar of course – we’re not that generous!).
Yes, thanks to the generosity of the Parish Council and the Thornton Community Centre trustees – there is no charge.

Prizes to be awarded
Take a step back in time this summer when the streets of Desford come alive with its rich and fascinating history at Desford Heritage Festival 2022.
During the weekend of July 2nd and 3rd, Desford will be divided into time zones, from the medieval era to the world wars. A vast array of re-enactors, musicians, vehicles, actors and entertainers will bring each zone to life recreating what Desford might have been like in each era. Dozens of community groups, including the churches, schools, pubs, shops and other local businesses are involved with the staging of the festival. Residents and visitors will have incredible opportunities to experience everything from Medieval sword fighting to life in a Victorian school room and much, much more.  The village will be alive with the sights, smells and sounds of each unique time period in this fun-packed weekend. The festival will also officially launch a brand-new Heritage Trail around the village, which will be unveiled for the first time during the weekend’s festivities.  The trail of 16 heritage boards will showcase Desford’s history and provide a legacy for future generations.Â
The English Civil War Society is very pleased to be providing re-enactors for one of the time zones.

The event runs from 10.00 am to 7.00 pm on both days.
Programmes will be £5 each and will gain you access to all attractions.
