Quiz Night

On Saturday 5th January the New Year Village Quiz with fish and chip supper was held at the village hall. This was hugely popular with 93 ‘quizzers’ in attendance. 90 portions of fish and chips were consumed and £100 in cash prizes together with other donated prizes were given away, and £330 was donated towards the upkeep of Thornton Community Centre.

The next quiz night is scheduled for Saturday 8th June.

Carol Singing

Almost a distance memory as we race into the New Year, but for the first time in many years there was carol singing around the village on the 19th December. A group of 15 met at the Bricklayers Arms and set off on a very cold night to sing around the village to raise funds for the Thornton Seniors’ Christmas party to be held in December 2019. £171 was raised in just over two hours with only time to get round half the village.

Particular thanks to Ben and Jan at the Bricklayers who gave members of the group mulled wine and mince pies on their return.

Hopefully next Christmas the group of singers will be large enough to split into two groups and cover half the village each or sing across two nights.

Village Carol singing

Will start and finish at the Bricklayers Arms.

Meet at 6.30pm – if you can’t make that time join in as we go around the village.
