A village in Leicestershire and in the heart of the National Forest, overlooking Thornton Reservoir.

Don’t forget to come along and ‘bag a bargain’

St Peter’s church is a beautiful ancient grade 1 listed building.
Built in the 13th century it will always be in need of preservation, maintenance and improvements to ensure its future and continued use.
The aims of The Friends of St Peter’s are to raise money to help preserve, improve and maintain St Peter’s Church.
If you would like to help in a very simple way you are invited to join The Friends. There is nothing arduous about it. Once you have joined just relax in the knowledge that you are doing your bit to preserve local heritage.
However, if you want to get more involved it would really be appreciated. We are always looking for new ideas.
There is a committee (membership is not terribly onerous if you would like to join) which meets about 6 times a year to plan events and exchange ideas.
The subscription for the year (April to April) is £5 per individual.

If you would like to become a member of The Friends please complete an application form, include your subscription and post to the treasurer, Eric Roberts, 23 Main Street, Thornton, LE67 1AF. Or join today in church. (Form below).
Your data will always be stored securely.
Thank you.
If you would like to become more involved with the group either with helping at our fund raising events, or holding an event please indicate this on the form and someone will contact you.
We are currently in need of secretarial help. If you could help in any way with this, we would be very grateful. Again please do let us know.

The latest fundraising quiz for the Friends of St Peter’s raised £85 after printing costs.
The money has been donated to FOSP to be used towards the maintenance and upkeep of St Peter’s church and churchyard.
33 quiz papers were returned – 16 had all the answers correct. (With so many correct answers I had to mark down those with spelling mistakes eg – The Monkies/Monkeys – should be Monkees).
After a random draw from the 16 correct answers – Amanda Jelley was declared the winner of the £10 prize.
Others with all correct answers are: – Dot Hollins, Jenny Hargreaves, Sue Gilder, Kathryn Byrne, Janet Greenfield, David Blain, Sue Black, Sue Smith, Sandy Maycock, Doreen Phillips ,Ann Barwell, Dave Robinson, Liz Mitchell, Judith Graves, Lis Muller,
There were many complimentary comments on the returned quiz sheets saying what good fun the quiz had been and how much people had enjoyed doing it.
Hopefully the balance was just right, with questions not too difficult to make it impossible but just hard enough to make you think.
For those that enjoy this type of quiz there will be another one out soon – I’ve nearly finished writing it. This will be on Plants, Flowers and Herbs.
