The Friends of St. Peter’s organisation, formed in 1995, works tirelessly to fund projects to maintain and improve the building. Its membership is drawn both from within the congregation and from the wider community and is supported by many of the villagers of Thornton.

The second Thornton quiz night of the year, was held at the Community Centre on Saturday 19th March.
Another great turn out with 60 people filling the hall ready for a 100 question ‘quizathon’.
This quiz was slightly different with the host being able to utilise for the first time the brand new projector and screen, bought earlier this year, by the trustees, with monies donated by Forterra Brickworks. Being able to project the questions and answers was a huge hit with the ‘quizzers’ and all agreed it was a wonderful addition to the hall facilities.
Ashley brought his chip van again and served up 60 portions of delicious fish and chips in double quick time.
The first prize of £24 was won by a village team, Mary Gibson, Jo Leadbetter, Helen and Dave Robinson, and Sandy and Richard Maycock, with a magnificent score of 93 out of a possible 100.
The £250 profit raised from the quiz and ‘card bingo’ was handed to the treasurer of the Friends of St Peter’s today as part of their ongoing fund raising efforts for the church.

Provisional date for the next quiz – Saturday 9th July – the night before Thornton Open gardens.
