Help for Ukraine

We are continuing to collect donations for Ukraine in St Peter’s Church, Thornton church on Sundays from 11.45 until 12.30 pm.

The list of urgently needed items has been updated but still does not include clothes, duvets, and shoes.

If you would like to donate but can’t get to church at these times please message me –

  • First aid kits
  • Wound dressing materials – bandages; wound closure strips; field bandages; sterile dressings; surgical tape
  • Painkillers
  • Cold/flu treatments
  • Multivitamins
  • Antiseptic gel, cream and wipes
  • Cream for babies – Metanium; Bepanthen; Drapolene nappy rash creams for protection and treatment
  • Bonjela treatment for mouth ulcers, and teething granules
  • Child antihistamine medicines to relieve symptoms of allergies, such as hay fever, hives, conjunctivitis and reactions to insect bites or sting
  • Child painkillers – Calpol, Nurofen


  • Thermal underwear – all sizes, both genders
  • Thick socks
  • Hand and feet warmers
  • Boot dryers
  • Sleeping bags
  • Hot water bottles
  • Insulated flasks
  • Warm blankets
  • Large/medium sized backpacks
  • Power banks and cables for charging phones
  • Torches with batteries, including head torches
  • Foil body wraps


No glass containers. All products must be in date.

  • Protein bars
  • Canned food
  • Dry food such as rice and pasta
  • Cup-a-soups
  • 3-in-1 coffee sachets
  • Baby food – powdered milk, ready-meal pouches


  • Toothbrushes/toothpaste
  • Wet wipes for both adults and children
  • Shower gels
  • Shampoo
  • Feminine sanitary products, including for new mothers
  • Breast pads for breastfeeding mothers
  • Nappies, all sizes
  • Pocket tissues
  • Toilet paper

The photographs below, from Shirley, show the outstanding generosity of Thornton residents (and those from the wider community) after the first appeal for donations.

These items have now been taken to the Ukraine centre in Leicester for onward transportation to Ukraine/Poland.
