Councils are changing in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland – have your say.

Leicestershire and Rutland currently have 10 councils (not including town or parishes). They are:

•             7 district and borough councils including HBBC

•             Leicestershire County Council

•             Leicester City Council

•             Rutland County Council

The Government wants to reduce the number of councils in this area. It has instructed councils to develop plans for fewer councils in areas like Hinckley and Bosworth which are currently served by two councils (borough and county).

They would be replaced with unitary councils to provide all services.

The council has been working with the other district councils and Rutland County Council on the North, City, South proposal.

It would see the creation of three equally sized unitary councils, one for North Leicestershire and Rutland, one for South Leicestershire and one for the city.

The North, City, South plan would:

⚬ Keep councils connected and accountable to local communities

⚬ Simplify services for residents, businesses, and partners

⚬ Protect the vulnerable and get support to people sooner

⚬ Deliver devolution and economic growth

⚬ Boost efficiency, saving nearly £43 million a year

Your views have helped shape the plans so far but councils are now seeking your views again to make sure they get this right for residents, for businesses and for communities.
