To celebrate St. Georges day this year, Friends of St Peter’s church organised an Open Evening on Monday 24th of April at St Peter’s Church, Thornton, followed by a Pie Night at the Bricklayers Arms.
The church was open between 6pm and 7.15pm for members of the public to watch the Bell Ringers rise and fall and ring various methods on the church bells.
Over 20 people turned up on the night to listen and watch, and some participated by way of chiming or ringing a bell.

The evening continued with 49 villagers and bell ringers filling the Bricklayers Arms for an evening meal – delicious pies of all types to suit everyone – followed by a ‘singalong’ to old favourites, Land of Hope and Glory, Jerusalem etc., ending with a rousing rendition of God Save the King.
Thank you to landlords Paul & Becky for opening the pub especially for us, for decorating it with flags and bunting, and entering into the spirit of the evening providing the music on screen and the song sheets.
There was the obligatory raffle – which raised £95 and Paul & Becky donated £144.55 from the cost of the meals – making a total raised for FOSP of £239.55
A very good night was had by all.
Thanks to Eric Roberts (Tower Captain, St Peter’s Church) for organising the evening.
