Inspired by the gothic horror movies of the 1930’s – think Frankenstein, Dracula, haunted houses, mysterious moaning and creaky floorboards, daft scary music and magical illusion. ‘Is That a Bolt In Your Neck?’ is a fast-paced, rollicking ride mixing spooky paranoia, surreal nightmare and frantic farce.
As lightning flashes across the sky, the rugged silhouette of an old dark house looms into view. Lost is a storm, this seems like the only possible refuge – but what happens when you hear mysterious moaning in the middle of the night? Behind every door lurks unimaginable horror….
This family show that is packed full of hilarious slapstick, verbal wit, live music and magical illusion. Featuring three fearless actors performing over 30 characters in just 75 minutes of action, an array of excellent props and daft puppets, you’ll gasp, laugh and be amazed at the horrific experiments, mind-boggling love and the sensational death-defying finale.

Jigsaws, and board games, books, jigsaw ‘library’.  

A small play area for young families.

Just pop in and spend some time in happy surroundings.

It looks as if the weather will be kind after all. So, there will be a working party tomorrow, 5th November, from 10 until 12 noon.

If we can’t work on the boundary, there are a few other jobs that need doing – saplings etc to cut back, and general tidying etc.

It would be great if you could join us even if it’s just for a short time.
Please bring any tools you would like to use, stout gloves and a drink.

Half term week at the centre has been exceptionally busy whilst the Play school children were on holiday.

First thing Monday morning the decorators moved in, together with the electricians.

Just five days later the decorators (3 of them) had painted the two halls, the meeting room, the storeroom, foyer and the kitchen at the centre, and the electricians changed all the lighting to LED’s, fitted (much needed) new lighting to the exterior of the building, repaired and replaced in other areas that needed attention. And whilst all this was going on Tom Orme popped in and replaced the faulty thermostats.

The curtains have been taken down and are at the dry cleaners, and today, the window cleaners arrived and cleaned all the windows and doors inside. Two weeks ago they cleaned the exterior of the building including the fascia, sills and guttering.

All the hedges have been trimmed and the grass cut. The centre (inside and out) looks so much smarter. We are getting it all spruced up before we celebrate the centre’s 50th anniversary next year.

The trustees would like to give a huge thank you to Johnson Wellborn Decorating and to Dave and his team from Glenfield Electrical for doing such a fabulous job for us in just 5 days,

We wouldn’t hesitate to give both firms and their workforce a 5* rating for being able to complete this work within a very tight schedule, for their thoughtfulness, helpfulness and communication skills, which all made for an excellent working relationship. Nothing was too much trouble for any of them and they all worked well together.

This is just the start of major work to be completed at the centre – but we really do need some help. We only have a small team of trustees who look after the two halls for the village. If you have a few hours a month to spare then please get in touch or come to our next meeting (7pm Thursday 17th November at Thornton Community Centre).

FOSP (Friends of St Peter’s) are tidying the boundary on the North side of the field below the new churchyard and the bit that sticks out and faces West.

They would like to clear right back to the tree line that forms the boundary. 

And then at some stage employ someone with a mini digger to move/spread out the soil/clay bank that has been formed by the grave diggers over the years.

The working parties always meet on a Saturday between 10am and 12noon,

The dates for the next three working parties are:

29^th October 2022

12^th November 2022

3^rd December 2022 for tree planting. 

There are at least 7 trees to plant thanks to HBBC.

Volunteers started clearing brambles, ivy and dead branches last Saturday, and made excellent progress. 

Thank you to everyone who helped. 

This week the field was mown by the contractors, and it is now clear what needs doing!!

It would be great if you were to come along and help, even if it’s just for one party and 10 minutes!

You would need to bring gardening gloves, any tools you think you might like to use and a drink.
