Beech Drive development

A village in Leicestershire and in the heart of the National Forest, overlooking Thornton Reservoir.

Many village residents will be saddened to learn that the government planning inspector has overturned the decision by the Hinckley & Bosworth BC Planning Committee to refuse the planning application to convert the old Bull’s Head pub into five flats. I am a member of the committee and I voted against the application in order to buy some time for an alternative community-led proposal for the future use of the site. Unfortunately, no viable plan emerged. The owner appealed against our decision and on Wednesday it was confirmed that he had succeeded. To make matters worse, costs were awarded against HBBC and council taxpayers must foot the bill for the appeal. On the upside, the inspector has applied some additional conditions to the design of the street-facing elevation of the building to protect the privacy of residents living on the other side of Main Street.
