Notice of Temporary Restrict of Merry Lees Road, Main Street and Bagworth Lane, Thornton – week commencing 24th February 2020 between the hours of 9.00 am and 3.00pm

Brooks Williams an American acoustic guitarist and singer-songwriter, returned to Thornton Community Centre last Saturday for a guitar workshop during the day followed by a concert in the evening.

His style combines roots, jazz, blues, classical, and folk.

He has released albums of contemporary folk music, blues music, and of instrumental guitar music..

66 spaces already reserved – if you fancy a good night out in a mildly competitive atmosphere, then come and have some fun. 100 questions to answer – Cash prizes for first and second place. Followed by a round of card bingo. Bring your own snacks and drinks to share with your team mates.

Kurling is specifically designed to be all-inclusive allowing disabled and non-disabled people to compete against each other with an equal chance of winning.

The objective of the game is to get your stones closer to the centre of the target than your opponent by using your hands or specialist equipment to assist you. Kurling is an ideal sport for those needing hand / eye co-ordination and some gentle exercise.

Due to unforeseen circumstances the Annie Duggan concert at Thornton Community Centre on Saturday 7th March has been cancelled.

Emily and her husband are looking to move back to Thornton and are looking for a new home, possibly in Highfields. If you know of any properties that may be coming onto the market in the near future please contact Emily on emilylvaughan@hotmail.com

Tickets £5 must be bought in advance and include soft drinks and nibbles (you’re welcome to bring your own drinks if you wish).

Govannen made their third appearance at Thornton Community Centre last Saturday. The smaller bistro sets purchased last year enabled us to get 74 guests in the hall allowing room to dance and dance they did!

96 year old villager – George Lee – made a guest appearance on stage playing his ukulele with the band.

All monies raised (£314) have gone towards the upkeep and improvement of the community centre.

Govannen proved so popular again that I expect they will be invited back next January – watch this space.

After the disappointment of having to call off the proposed carol singing in Thornton on Tuesday 10th December because of bad weather, a group of villagers and two guests from Bagworth came together at the Bricklayers Arms last night to set off around the village. Freezing fog did not deter them as they sang their way along Main Street and Hawthorne Drive. But after an hour and a half, with fingers too numb to turn the song sheet pages, and every breath freezing in the air, it was time to decamp back to the pub to count the ‘spoils’. Ben, the landlord, soon thawed everyone out with glasses of mulled wine.

£104.50 was raised towards the Seniors Christmas party 2020.
