The first session is a non tech awareness webinar for the public on Thursday 13th May 1.30pm – and is aimed at anyone who uses email and the internet. The second session, 18th May 6pm, is aimed at businesses including an overview on current threats and signposting to a vast array of free resources in order to help increase their resilience against cybercrime and fraud. As lockdown eases Thornton Community Centre begins to re-open after several months of closure.
And an exciting new Karate club will be coming to the village.
Chris Fitches had hoped to start up a Budokan Kempo Karate Club last October but was thwarted by the lockdown. It is now scheduled to start on Thursday 20th May.
There will be two hour sessions of Budokan Kempo Karate starting at 6.30pm every Thursday in the Community Centre sports hall.
Childrens session – 6.30pm – 7.30pm
Adults session – 7.30pm – 8.30pm

Thornton resident, Colin Harris, celebrates after winning local photography competition, run by homebuilder, McCarthy Stone.
The competition was judged by MP for Hinckley and Bosworth, Dr Luke Evans, who selected Colin Harris’ winning image, entitled ‘Winter’s Icy Sunrise’.
Colin Harris’ winning image, ‘Winter’s Icy Sunrise’, will now be professionally printed and displayed in McCarthy Stone’s show complex at Elizabeth Coxhead Gardens.
The competition called for local residents to share photographs of their favourite scenery, wildlife, and landscapes in Hinckley, Leicestershire, and the surrounding areas, taken on their daily walks during lockdown.
Colin, who was awarded £250 for his photograph, said: “While my walks have been restricted to around Hinckley, I feel very fortunate to live in such a beautiful place with so many scenic views to enjoy.
“I have always really enjoyed taking photos, and this particular photo of the Thornton Reservoir with St. Peter’s Church in the background is a favourite. I was delighted to win this competition, and I am looking forward to visiting Elizabeth Coxhead Gardens to see my photo in situ.”
Dr Luke Evans said the standard of all the entries was phenomenal and was a real testament to the talented amateur photographers around Hinckley.
Dr Evans said: “I certainly had a tough decision to make. I chose Colin’s image because the winter morning sunlight perfectly captures the natural rural beauty of our area.
“It reminded me that even in the darkest days of winter there is hope too – particularly apt for this COVID winter. I look forward to seeing it in place at Elizabeth Coxhead Gardens when restrictions have eased.”
Samantha Watkins, Deputy Divisional Sales and Marketing Director for McCarthy Stone Midlands, offered the company’s congratulations to Colin for winning the competition.
Samantha said: “There are so many stunning views in and around Hinckley, and Colin’s image really captured the beauty of the area.
“Although current restrictions mean that we haven’t been able to officially unveil the image in our new show complex just yet, we look forward to welcoming Colin to see it for himself once we can safely open the doors.”
McCarthy Stone received the Housebuilder Special Recognition Award 2020 for working hard to protect its customers during the pandemic.
